The Beatification Celebration in Spring

His Holiness Benedict XVI has established that the celebration of the Rite of Beatification  of the Servant of God Giuseppe Toniolo, a lay person and a family man, who was born in Treviso on the 7th March 1845 and died in Pisa on the 7th October 1918, is to be held in Rome, in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, on Sunday 29th April 2012.

His Eminence Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi, Archbishop Emeritus of Palermo and ex General Assistant of the Italian Catholic Action, will represent the Holy Father.

He was declared Venerable on the 14th June 1971, and on the 14th January 2011, the Congregation for Saints' Causes issued the decree about a miracle attributed to Giuseppe Toniolo's intercession. This document concludes the procedures towards beatification.

The miracle attributed to Toniolo's intercession concerns a boy from Pieve di Soligo (Tv), the place where the future Blessèd lies buried.

In June 2006, Francesco Bortolini, now 38 years old, fell from a wire fence. As a result, he suffered serious injuries which lead the doctors to consider his condition as "desperate". The parish community of S. Maria Assunta in Pieve di Soligo prayed for his recovery through Toniolo's intercession. After a number of days Francesco's condition started improving until he recovered completely.
